Nielsen (you know the people that track the TV ratings) has a program that tracks your shopping purchases called The Home Scan Panel.

Here’s how it works: Sign up here and upon approval they send you a scanner. You scan all the purchases you bring into your house, groceries, healthy and beauty, clothes, etc. This is a fun thing to let the kids do, Maddie loves to help with the scanner! Once a week, you hook the scanner up to your computer (or you can elect to get the scanner that submits it’s data over a landline) and in about a minute it transmits the data back to Nielsen.

You earn points for each weekly submission (500 points but it goes up the longer you’ve been a member) and then you also complete a short survey on each store you shopped at that week (100 points per store). Go here to check out the new prize Catalog.

This is my personal scanner. It is so easy to do, it takes just a couple minutes each week. I like that I am influencing what retails are making and getting rewarded with points to earn fun prizes at the same time. If you do decide that you no longer like scanning your purchases you can send your scanner back without any questions asked. They even give you a prepaid postage label.

I am FINALLY getting a Nielsen Home Scanner!

I am so excited! I got a call two days ago from Nielsen saying that they would be sending me a home scanner.  I signed up over a year ago and have been on the waiting list for what seems like forever. I should be getting my scanner within 3-4 weeks. I know several people that have been doing it for awhile now and love it. Each week you scan each of your purchases, then transmit your information once a week. For doing this, Nielsen is able to get data that helps companies know what products you are interested in. You get points for scanning and transmitting data in which you can get awesome prizes and Coupons with. I think it will be a lot of fun!
