It's that time of year...W-2's are coming in and you are collecting all your receipts and donation slips for write-off's. Did you know that you can federally file with H&R Block for FREE? Go here to get started.

If you like Turbo Tax, you can file FREE with them too. My suggestion is to enter your information with both and see which gives you a bigger return. Last year my return with Turbo Tax was more than my return with H&R Block.

Do you have all your tax documents lined up and are ready to file?

We just did our taxes through Turbo Tax since that is the company that we went through last year and all of our information was saved, which is so convenient. Actually, I submitted our information through two different companies to make sure that the return would be about the same either way and Turbo Tax determined that our return should be about $300 more than the other company. I definitely recommend doing this just to make sure you are getting back as much as possible. It does not cost money either way until the very end when you finally submit your return. I e-file so that I don't have to wait as long to get the money back too. This year they have changed things a bit and even if you submit now, they are not processing returns until 2/14 so get your information in now so that your return can be processed in the beginning.

Secretly, I really kind of like getting all the documents in the mail and looking over what we made, how much we paid, and getting a small return. My goal each year is to come as close to even but not have to pay, I would rather keep the money in my pocket each month than fork over a ton of money and then get it back at the end of the year. I know some people like to get a large tax return and count it as savings account though or go on a fun trip. The best part is you can go through either H&R Block or Turbo Tax and file for FREE. Personally, I like to e-file and get it done with as soon as possible. What are your thoughts?
